Rates fall substantially outside the high season, and stays of a month or more are usually quoted as a monthly figure rather than a nightly one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That figure is also structured differently. On a one-week booking the rate is all-in. On a long stay, utilities are commonly metered and settled separately, because a guest staying eight weeks with the heating on has a genuinely different consumption profile from a guest staying six nights in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"glaser-callout\">\n<div class=\"callout-title\">Ask what the monthly rate includes<\/div>\n<p>Specifically: electricity, water, wifi, community fees, and whether a mid-stay clean and linen change is part of the price or charged on top. There is no nightly per-person levy to budget for here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You also will not be paying the standing costs of ownership &#8212; community fees, IBI, insurance, maintenance. Daytime temperatures on the coast in January are mild and often genuinely pleasant. Evenings are not, and Spanish apartments are designed to shed heat rather than hold it &#8212; tiled floors, big glazing, minimal insulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An apartment that is idyllic in June can be cold and damp in January if its only heating is a wall-mounted air conditioning unit set to reverse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to ask before booking a winter stay<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What heating is there, in which rooms, and is it included in the rate? Is there any form of dehumidification? Does the property have double glazing? Is there hot water sufficient for the number of people staying? These are dull questions that make the difference between a good winter and a long one.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-top g-row is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-top g-rail is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:36%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What the coast is <em>like<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Open, quieter, greener<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-top g-body is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The promenades, supermarkets, markets and the majority of restaurants operate year-round, because the coast has a resident population rather than being purely seasonal. Some beach chiringuitos close, and some of the more tourist-facing places take a break in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Golf runs all winter and the courses are in good condition. The Cercan\u00edas train runs its normal service. The mountains behind are green rather than burnt, and the walking is far better than in summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The practical texture of a long stay &#8212; a doctor, a pharmacy, a bank, a gym, decent wifi for working &#8212; is straightforward in the towns.
